Housing in Haltenrain is a winning proposal by Maurus Schifferli and Morger Partner Architekten for SP Development designed in 2024. It is located in Niederscherli Switzerland in an outskirt setting. Its scale is large with a surface of 24.000 sqm an estimated budget of 59.650.000 € and a ratio of 2.485 €/sqm. Key materials are metal and wood. Filippo Bolognese collaborated as visualizer. Concepts such as new development rural balcony and colonnade are explored.

The proposed design aims to create a development that harmonises with the existing beauty of the landscape and naturally complements the curved, distinctive topography of the site. The architecture creates a framework that synergistically accompanies the natural space with its staggered accents of tree volumes and sees itself as part of the landscape. Within this calm geometric development of the volumes, a diverse range of housing is planned that reflects the formulated typological vision and creates attractive, liveable spaces. Within the possibilities of the development plan, precisely angled and largely polygonal structures are proposed, which, following the idea of topographical framing, create exciting and relaxed spaces. A total of seven new building volumes consisting of rows and end buildings are planned, which are complemented by the buildings of the courtyard group. The perspective development and the designed rhythmisation of the intermediate space is a central theme of the design. The scale, which is adapted to the location and typology, seeks reference to the existing without losing the desired tranquillity in an excessively small scale. The space for movement opens up like a staccato, through densification and widening towards the edge of the forest and ends in the lush natural space. As you walk through the alleyways, the length of the buildings is repeatedly broken up in perspective, resulting in a pleasant spatial dimensioning.
