☉ The New Aleš South Bohemian Gallery is an honour mention proposal by AOSI and FENOMEN SPACE for České Budějovice Municipality in 2024. It is located in České Budějovice Czech Republic in a park setting. Its scale is medium with a surface of 1.435 sqm a budget of 3.200.000 € and a ratio of 2.230 €/sqm. Key material is concrete. The new building of the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery will revitalize the historical core of České Budějovice. As an institution, it will expand public space and provide direct access to art. It seamlessly blends the region’s rich history with modern artistic and architectural expression, enhancing the dignity of the newly developed Senovážné Square. The gallery will offer an ideal setting for valuable artworks and will be open to everyone. The creation of the new Sculpture Park will forge a close connection between art and public space, adding a vertical dimension to the surrounding park. This will place the artworks in the context of the urban environment, allowing passersby to engage with art in the public realm. Thanks to its architectural design, which features individually tiered floors, the gallery will offer publicly accessible terraces. These spaces will not only provide areas for relaxation and rest for visitors but also serve as outdoor venues for art installations. This gives people the chance to experience art in an open-air setting, independent of the gallery’s indoor exhibitions. By opening the terraces to the public, the gallery becomes an active participant in the life of the city, where art is integrated into everyday urban life. With its openness, the gallery will also serve as a new socio-cultural platform, further strengthening the city’s identity.
