In the peripheral area of old Tainan city, there was a place called West Zhuwei, which means the west of the bamboo forest outside the city. Known as one of the Tainan’s Seven Phoenix Hills, West Zhuwei was once valued, but now it has been long forgotten. With the abundant complicated chronological history of this city over the past century, I would like to utilize opportunities of the reshaping of Tainan Station Rear Area, including (1) The green park road project after the Tainan railway went underground. (2) Historical buildings around the base. (3) Reorganizing nearby function after the school relocation. By re-rendering the topography and historical memory, I would like to co-locate the gradually forgotten historical item and urban life function. In addition, I would like to create a life space and make people experience the invisible Tainan in their urban daily life.
The role (inserted function) of my design in the urban function reorganization is (1) Strengthen the function for art and culture exhibition, recreation and sports and business activities. (2) Insert learning activity to respond to the reuse of partially reserved old elementary school. (3) Insert historical relics restoration and collection to make up a deficiency in urban function. My design aims to (A) Re-link the hierarchical relationship between historical buildings and landscapes. (B) Rebuilding people’s knowledge of Tainan from the topography perspectives. (C) Reshaping a modern life space by using the opportunities of the elementary relocation and redistricting due to railway going underground. The driving force of my design includes (A) Re-rendering fault, bamboo forests and waterways in the Qing dynasty. (B) Re-render hills in Taiwan under Japanese rule. (C) Reuse of old school budling in the period of the Republic of China.
